Hey Everybody,

Just a friendly reminder that today is the official two month reminder
[1] prior to feature freeze on Wednesday, July 18th, 2018. For those
who are not aware, we try to "feature freeze" the master branch in
order to test and stabilize the code base prior to release of a new
major version of Asterisk - in this case, Asterisk 16.

Let's take a moment to discuss what 'feature freeze' even means if we
are still adding new features to Asterisk 15.

On July 18th, the Asterisk team will create the Asterisk 16 branch,
along with a branch specifically for the first release of Asterisk 16,
16.0.0. As new features are developed, they can be proposed both for
Asterisk 15 as well as for the Asterisk 16 mainline branch, subject to
the 'you must have tests for release branches' policy [2]. Meanwhile,
the Asterisk 16.0.0 branch will remain frozen, and the first
beta/release candidates will be cut from it. When Asterisk 16.1.0 is
released, it will contain any minor new features or improvements that
were made in the meantime and were merged into the Asterisk 16
mainline branch. Essentially, this gives the 16.0.0 the equivalent of
an extended release testing period prior to final release.
