Certainly for another channel. When I wrote this, I wasn't thinking that another thread could do this for the same channel - however, that's clearly possible. I could have AMI perform a SetVar on a channel at the same time as dialplan (or ARI) invoked the function.

Unlocking it here was merely a 'don't hold the lock if you don't need it' thought - I'll just hold the lock during the entire operation instead.
