Well, all that really adds is safe checking of size... the structs are the same and they use static sizes. I suppose it's better to go ahead and change that though in case they are ever switched to use arbitrary length strings instead of predefined character arrays.

I get that it compiles to the same thing because it's a macro... but this construct:
AST_LIST_NEXT(new_menu_action, action) = NULL;
seems a little iffy to me. It's visually like setting the value of a function return.
