    The max_channels on an endpoint doesn't appear to be used to actually restrict the number of channels associated with an endpoint.
    
    Is this being done on purpose or is this an oversight?

    It appears that all accesses of the channel_ids container are protected by the endpoint's lock. You can allocate the channel_ids container with no lock.

    There's no reason to output the function here since ast_debug already prints the function as part of the message preamble.
