That's not actually true. Asterisk 11 has it's own branch right now, so 
trunk is currently what would become Asterisk 12.

I think changes to the CREDITS file should have followed the workflow 
that is normally done for bug fixes, which is to apply to the oldest 
supported branch (Asterisk 1.8) and merge to forward to all branches and 
then into trunk.
