Unless there have been substantial updates to the codec (performance improvements,
bug fixes, etc.), I think we will get limited value from using a third party
provided shared library.

As it is, including the IETF derived source code, which is not expected to change,
does not seem to put a significant burden on the maintenance of Asterisk.  
That being said, I'm fine with this suggestion, if someone would like to create
the patch and post it up on reviewboard.
