This question is better suited for the asterisk-users list... but the 
answer is that Asterisk does not stop DTMF tones (or any other tones it 
can recognize) from being carried over any path, regardless of the codec 
in use. Whether the DTMF tones will be successfully carried and 
detectable at the other end is of course dependent on the codec, bitrate 
and other factors.
