In addition to the media format architecture that Kevin mentioned, the
bridging API received several updates and modifications.  While some
of the changes in this layer were made to support the wide band audio
possible with the new media format architecture; some of the changes
were made simply to support features in ConfBridge.  Porting this back
to Asterisk 1.8 would be a very large effort.
