[asterisk-dev] How to get ast_debug() logged

This feels like a stupid question, but I've been banging my head on this
long enough ...

What do I need to do to get ast_debug() messages logged?

I've tried both 'debug = 1' and 'debug = 4' in the [options] section of
asterisk.conf, but it does not appear that any debug messages are being
logged to /var/log/asterisk/messages.
