announcement say that it was going to be run as a separate company and 
not absorbed into the whole?

I think it's a shame (mostly because I have a small pile of licenses 
that I've barely used).

The original product was crippled anyway, Skype forcing people to have a 
business account, and then announcing that they will start charging for 
having a business account, ruined it anyway.
