[asterisk-dev] Common API for sms / text messages

Hello List,

is there a common way to handle text messages in asterisk?

Currently I am executing a sms extension by chan_datacard on an arrival 
of a SMS and set the variables SMSTXT and SMSSRC.

This works, but it looks pretty strange for me. Is there a better / 
generic way for handling SMS / Text messages?

If not then how about adding something like that to Asterisk 1.8?
