What do you mean by "previous pattern"? Do you mean that the ~ matches
zero or more of the previous single character pattern
so _+[1-9][0-9]~ matches +100 but not +10+10
If so I am in agreement. ~ is better than my % suggestion (which has a
different sql meaning that may confuse)
If this wildcard (and any other such as ? for match one character) is
introduced then a configuration option may be required. The general
section of extensions.conf may need to have:
[general]
wildcardtilda=yes
wildcardquestion=yes
