[asterisk-dev] Asterisk 1.8 and MP3 code?

I just noticed that the Asterisk Addons were merged into trunk/1.8
back in June of 2009.  I know I'm coming to the party kind of late on
this one, but what the heck is up with including MP3 code in the main
Asterisk tarball?  I had to go through a lot of hoops to get Asterisk
accepted into Fedora originally because the Asterisk tarballs
contained patent-encumbered iLBC codecs and MP3 files.  With the
removal of the iLBC codecs and the MP3 files I no longer had to go
through those hoops anymore.  I really don't want to go back to the
bad old days.  Can we please please please take the MP3 code out of
Asterisk?
