I first enabled pedantics because (i) my phones produced multiline
headers and (ii) I needed to dial numbers containing a hash. Bizarrely
asterisk rejects correctly escaped # characters unless pedantics is
enabled. One might have assumed that it would accept both escaped and
unescaped hash characters when pedantic=no but accept only correctly
escaped hash characters when pedantic=yes
