[asterisk-dev] RFC: Capacity Study

Hello everyone,

I'm going to put a test bed together to study some portions of
Asterisk performance:

- SIP performance (total sessions, CPS, etc)
- RTP performance (mainly packets per second and underlying network performance)
- The impact of virtualization

I'm focusing on SIP because it has more test tools available. I
also use it the most.

I already have a general idea of what I'm going to tweak:

- ulimit/sysctl (obviously)
- ethernet driver options (NAPI, Intel's ITR/etc, etc)
- IRQ/SMP issues
- Various virtualization tweaks (TBD)

I'm doing this mostly to improve my understanding of the issues
involved (especially interrupt issues, packets per second, and
virtualization in general). I'm looking for some guidance from the
Asterisk community. What other things can I test? What other
parameters can I tweak? Any other ideas?
