Why will asterisk not dump core by defualt? (In the unfortunate event of a
segmentation fault or similar)

In most systems there is an explicit system administrator action needed
to allow core files: 'ulimit -c unlimited'. So why not enable core dumps
by default? Is there any runtime overhead?
