Fine. They don't want to install from pristince upstream source. They
want to install from a version of Asterisk that has been modified to
work with the specific distribution. 

So a daily snapshot of the pristine tarball won't help them, right?
Who will guarantee that the port's patches will still apply to it? 
Will you?
