I am not familiar w/ Linux so please bear with me. Here are the answers
to your questions:
How many known remote holes are in the SIP channel of Asterisk 1.0.7?
- This was just the version Linksys started with and took from there as
their starting base and branched out from Asterisk. Their official
version says 1.1.2.2. I do not actually have information on their
source. I guess they have to post it publicly for license reasons.
What CLI prompt exactly? Asterisk? Linux? (as root?)
- Here is what I get when I log in.
BusyBox on (none) login: root
Password:
CLI

Can you edit voicemail.conf ?
- If I have access to telnet, would that then give me access to
voicmail.conf? Remember I a Windows developer. Is there a way I can read
the file w/in telnet and copy/paste it from there?
What you suggest is much more complicated.
- I thought is may, but since I am not sure I had access, the only thing
I could think of.
All you need is a local command to relay mail outside. Which can be
something as simple as ssmtp to a near-by SMTP server. Theoretically it
can even be a home-brewed script that uses nc (netcat) or even telnet to
send the bits to be handled on a different computer.
--OK. This sounds right and a solution. Couple Questions:
1. Is there built in functionality for this. In other words am I dealing
with VM Message Objects or must this all be created.
2. Could I create the script and pass to telnet via my .NET Telnet
classes (see link). Since I am being notified when new messages arrive I
can then access the system remotely and tell the VM server to relay the
message (via the script) to the right individual. Here is something that
I could use:

Thanks a great deal, I think we are making progress.

Here's a small question for fun and profit:
How many known remote holes are in the SIP channel of Asterisk 1.0.7?
