It's possible, but who benefits? Right now the *VAST* majority of
Asterisk users who use direct checkouts from Subversion don't have to
care what versions of the autotools we use, because the output from
those tools is part of the checkout.

The only negative impact that this has is that *developers* who want to
work on parts of Asterisk that affect the configure script have to have
a development system that supports autoconf 2.60 available. This is a
very small group of very knowledgeable users, who are in the best
possible position to be able to deal with this issue.
