I'm not really going to upgrade to 1.4 unless I know that the issue
is resolved. Randomly hanging PABXs in the middle of the day is not
my idea of a good time.

The advantage of the 1.2 codebase is that it is pretty stable with
regarding to changes in the codebase :-)
