[asterisk-dev] Configuration settings

Hi all,
      I am newbie to Asterisk. I want to know its source code and how to
change it according to my application. Is there any helpfiles to understand
the source code and alter it? Can i work on asterisk in Windows operating
system? I have installed asterisk 1.4 in my system. What else do i need to
install? Anybody help me out... Thanks in advance.
