It's a known issue with FC6 installer (don't have the url handy).
It incorrectly installs a i586 kernel image instead of i686 one
(which the kernel headers package is OK).
The workaround (from memory) is to download the same kernel binary
rpm and then:
  rpm -ivh --replacepkgs --replacefiles kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i686.rpm
