[asterisk-dev] app_authenticate

I am planning to submit a patch for app_authenticate that allows the
user to specify the prompts to be played instead of using the coded
prompts, or possibly just change the code to use prompts that all start
with auth- instead of using prompts form the vm- and agent- prompt
collection.

The goal is to be able to use app_authenticate for post-bill call
accounting where the current voice prompts are too long, but the
functionality of app_authenticate is perfect.

The ability to specify the prompts used for the app in the dialplan
would be the most flexible option.

The question is;

Is app_authenticate used by other parts of the * code tree, or is it
reserved as a user initiated application?

If it is widely used in the code it would make more sense to create a
new app, like "app_billingcode" that could be used to collect an
accounting code from the user and change or append the accountcode cdr
field.

If it is not widely used giving it a unique set of voice prompts would
allow the user to change its behavior simply by re-recording the
prompts.

Thoughts?
