[asterisk-dev] any use for the 'newstack' argument in pbx_exec() ?

looking at the code, it seems that pbx_exec() reports an error
when the last argument, 'newstack', is not set.

So i wonder, is it a leftover from the past, or a placeholder
for some future extension ?

the only use i see is to generate an error when pbx_extension_helper()
is called with E_EXEC as last argument... which only happens in
ast_exec_extension(), which in turn seems to be only
called by pbx_loopback::loopback_exec() with newstack=0...
and then it becomes too hard for me to follow!

who knows the full story ?
