BTW: currently asterisk comes with keys from Digium and from
FreeWorldDialup and from iaxtel . Any other providers use IAX RSA
authentication? If so: maybe include their keys as well to help with
connection setup?

Maybe include a number of keys but not install them by default to the
keys directory, so you won't utomatically trust a bunch of ITSP.

Cons: there is no mechanism for key revocation. The more keys we
distribute, the larger the chance for an invalid key.

This is documentation, IMHO. 

What do you expect "contrib" to be? It seems it is basically "junkyard".
