[Asterisk-Dev] startup

Hi all,

I am new to asterisk and am looking for following information, any help will
be greatly appreciated.
When my asterisk starts, I want it to connect it to another server and then
continuously keep pinging that server by sending heartbeat messages. So in
asterisk, is there some way of specifying an app or some thing can be
started by asterisk at start up time and then this app can be on it's own,
having it's own logic?
Any ideas ?
