[Asterisk-Dev] Presence, IM, and the All-Powerful Convergence Buzzword

Has there been any progress in making IM integration into Asterisk?
I know this was discussed a while back, but the Google Summer of Code
results have (confusingly) some FreeBSD project in the "Asterisk"
section. I suppose this is more of a status check than a query,
since the benefits of more complete IM integration have already been
discussed.

I've longed to see presence within the dialplan, both to set/get
statuses and send/receive messages from various IM service channels
via an authenticated meta-user "shim" or natively. Jabber and SIP
SIMPLE would be lovely. I know that there is basic SIMPLE in
Asterisk now, I think thanks to Olle. Is this able to be
bootstrapped into other protocols via a SIMPLE->Jabber->... gateway
using something like SER?
