I wrote an answering machine detection application for asterisk. It analyses
the greeting: silence duration vs. voice, minimum and maximum voice duration
to detect a greeting, silence duration after a greeting, number of words,
etc. In my opinion this is the most practical way of detecting an answering
machine and the results can be very satisfying.
