Dialling is not really the problem. You could use a desktop dialler
that supports Asterisk, such as JPT (Jon's Phone Tool) which uses the
manager interface to place a call.

Hanging up a call could also be done through the manager interface
(bit inconvenient though) but how do you pick up an incoming call?
