Refer to earlier comments in this thread regarding slip/underrun.
It is not advisable to expend effort on SS7 in Asterisk if T1s are not
bullet-proof reliable. SS7 networks do not tolerate link bounces
from a T7 MTP2 timer expiry due to lost information from not
being able to keep data supplied to a link DS0.
Opening NFAS signaling to an external signal gateway might be a
worthwhile first step to getting ISUP over IP to Asterisk.
External signal gateways can accomodate
the austere requirements of SS7 MTP2. SS7 ISUP is quite forgiving
and will work nicely on an IP connection to n Asterisk boxes.
SCTP/M3UA is a good transport choice. UDP/M3UA will work during
development.
