If * is going to support OS's other than linux, it would be nice
to get the build to look a little more like a gnu package or a kernel 
source tree.
Get the ifdefs out of the make files and source code.

Some type of config/arch directory at the root.

arch/${OSARCH}/${PROC}

arch/linux/xx86
arch/linux/ppc
arch/xxxbsd/xx86
arch/SunOS/sparc

I was trying to build a freebsd, openbsd and sunos the other day.
It is getting pretty ugly.
Someone suggested autoconf.  That would be way cool.

Now get busy out there and make my life easy.
