[Asterisk-Dev] Asterisk running in verbose mode but not in background

Hi Guys

Does anyone know why one of my asterisk servers would be refusing to run when 
started as "asterisk" but happily runs when launched as "asterisk -vvvc"

It is logging the following:

==> messages <==
Mar 31 15:29:11 WARNING[16384]: Unable to initialize va stuff: -1

It was working previously, but today I added h323 support and G.729 codec 
support..
