[Asterisk-Dev] checking if asterisk is alive?

hi all

I want to write a nagios plugin that checks if asterisk is alive and
running. For me, this will need to check mgcp,sip,zap and the manager.

Any ideas how I can do this the best way? Would it be best to build a
separate plugin for each of them? I already have the one for the manager
(just logs in and out)
