Would it be possible for you to build a new kernel without enabling SMP
support, and try running Asterisk on that? Many drivers have problems with
SMP, and maybe the driver for your card (FX 410?) does too.
If the whole machine locks up, it's unlikely to be Asterisk's fault. The
kernel is supposed to prevent user applications from killing the machine,
so if the machine dies then the kernel either caused it, or failed to
prevent it. In either case, it's a bug in the kernel.
