so, would it be ok to change the build so that the db1-ast is the default,
but can be disabled by the user to use the system libraries?

ie. your code is not dependent on it, but the user can make the choice?

i don't think the db3 libraries on *BSD/OSX are so encumbered.  or at least
they wouldn't be so encumbered if the user built asterisk from source and
_chose_ to use the system libraries.
