Log:
Creating an area to merge the 1.4 SIP spiral support to trunk when
merge time comes.

While I expect the 1.4 patch to apply cleanly (or close to cleanly) there
may be some hurdles to overcome in trunk, so I am making a branch for this
specifically just in case.
