Regarding your latter comments, the goal of this Assert() application is indeed for "this should never be". It's not intended for error handling at all, and doesn't allow any (the RaiseException application with e extension would be for error handling). It only logs the error in detail so that the dialplan programmer can look at it later, but it crashes the call intentionally. So in that sense, I don't see how it's not dissimilar to the C version.
