Patch Set 3: Code-Review-1

After further testing I found out the patch does not work in all scenarios.

On FreeBSD machines having IPv6 enabled but not configured it fails to allocate ports.

I'll send a further patch which addresses this situation too, I just need a little time to "cook" it.
