> When you create a local channel and don't specify an originator, the channel gets created with all audio formats in it's capabilities list.  When an attempt is made to make the channel compatible with another, the translation path is created with the best format available, which in this case is slin at 192.  While this is the best for quality, it's the worst for performance and is overkill in the vast majority of cases.
