FYI - for anyone that comes across this - Debian 7 has a broken gdb ( https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=701160 ).

For this bug, I've upgraded to Deb 8 so if it happens again, I can get a full backtrace.
