Rusty Newton created ASTERISK-24661:
---------------------------------------

Summary: Wiki Documentation - Create a page to document Asterisk's audio and video capabilities (formats, codecs)
                 Key: ASTERISK-24661
                 URL: https://issues.asterisk.org/jira/browse/ASTERISK-24661
             Project: Asterisk
          Issue Type: Improvement
      Security Level: None
          Components: Core/General, Documentation
Environment: Asterisk 11 and 13 would be nice
            Reporter: Rusty Newton

Let's make it easier for new users to find out what audio and video formats and codecs are supported.

We have this page: https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Codec+Modules which documents available codec modules.

We could use another page to document compatible formats and pass-through support. e.g. Opus support.

This page: https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/File+Format+Drivers could stand to be more detailed about the technical details for each format supported.

Both the above mentioned pages could use notes on which codecs or formats were added in what version.

If a user is googling for Asterisk codec support, they are likely to find http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+codecs which isn't exactly up to date either.

We may want a "Asterisk Audio and Video Capabilities" page to tie it all together and link to the various subsections on codec modules, format modules, pass-through support, etc.
