Rusty Newton created ASTERISK-24059:
---------------------------------------

Summary: [patch] contrib/scripts/install_prereq selects 32-bit packages on 64-bit hosts
                 Key: ASTERISK-24059
                 URL: https://issues.asterisk.org/jira/browse/ASTERISK-24059
             Project: Asterisk
          Issue Type: Bug
      Security Level: None
          Components: Contrib/General
    Affects Versions: 11.11.0, 12.4.0
            Reporter: Ben Klang
            Severity: Trivial

The tool to install prerequisite packages before building Asterisk uses a search command on Debian that results in selecting both 64-bit and 32-bit packages. Besides the waste of disk space, I actually had this cause aptitude use 100% of memory on a VM with 1GB of RAM as it tried to work out all of the 32-bit package dependencies.

The attached patch includes a trivial fix to exclude 32-bit packages on 64-bit hosts. It has been successfully tested on both 64-bit and 32-bit Ubuntu.
