An update:

The patch on this issue, while not yet confirmed by you to fix the reported crash, definitely fixes a bad use of memory and the review board posting has been approved.

I am going to commit the patch since it needs to go in anyway. I am not going to close this issue since it is confirmed that it fixes your reported crash.
