Thanks for contributing your work back to the project. However, the Digium developers second Michael's comments. I spoke briefly with Mark Michelson about this feature and he also feels that this functionality would make more sense as a system-wide AMI modification, not just for the "sip show peers" command, but that the system-wide modification may not be possible as AMI currently exists.

Nir if you feel strongly about this, please bring it up on the asterisk-dev list for discussion, then the issue on the tracker could potentially be re-opened depending on how that goes.
