Running configure when cross-compiling, results in:
--
checking if we can increase the maximum select-able file descriptor...
cross-compile
checking if we can increase the maximum select-able file descriptor...
cross-compile
configure: error: cannot run test program while cross compiling
See `config.log' for more details.
--
configure then exits with 1

This change was adding to 1.4 with r284478
