[asterisk-bugs] Dahdi_genconf and Dahdi_scan discrepancies and Init script

I'm using Ubuntu with Linux version 2.6.27-17-server and a tdm800 and
recently decided to upgrade from zaptel drivers to dahdi and at the same
time asterisk 1.4 to 1.6.1
The previous configuration was working great, but I have had a number of
issues that i'm working through now.
1) the default init script for debian linux included in the asterisk
source packages runs asterisk with the -c flag which maxes out the cpu
indefinately.
2) the Dahdi_genconf and Dahdi_scan report opposite ports. fxo vs fxs. I
know what is correct and can manually change the config files, but c'mon
shouldn't they both say port 1 is fxo if that is what it is?
3) using asterisk-gui it takes several minutes to get past (checking
write permissions for gui folder) and then several more minutes past
(detecting hardware)
I haven't gotten this thing running yet since upgrading, and maybe #3 is
a symptom of that fact.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Regards...
