its a known problem of 1.6 and also 1.8 but your patch would even make the
handling of do_monitor slower than now, which is just very slow at all :D
take a look at https://reviewboard.asterisk.org/r/917/ it should be easy
to use the patch against trunk for 1.8 which fixes your problem.
