Summary:                    [patch] Allow playback/recording of MP3's and WAVs
Description: 
currently, things are hard-coded to only record in .gsm format (even though
WAV is listed as an option).  also, there is support for playback of
recordings in .ulaw and such, but not for .wav or .mp3

the attached patch addressed the missing .wav and .mp3 extension stripping
so those files will play properly, and also removes the hard-coding of .gsm
as the record format, so that recording in .wav is permitted.

Our subversion hook pooped when committing this patch. However, this is now
in the branches/2.0 as of r4988
