t is as though the read generator feature was not initialized in the
channel when this was called.

A number of developers have taken a look at this and we haven't been able
to find anything that could lead to this situation.  We also have not been
able to reproduce it.

So, given that this was reported a good while ago now, I'm just going to
close it out, since it is possible that it has since been resolved.

If anyone sees this crash again on a newer version, please let us know!
