example setting:

[classical]
mode=custom
application=/usr/local/bin/mpg123 -q -s --mono -r 8000 -f 8192

and touching the directory to hold classical and an empty file.

There have been some changes to 1.4 since 1.4.25 was released.  I have
tested the latest in the 1.4 branch and this appears to work (with a
similar call to mpg123).  Could you try the latest 1.4 SVN and see if this
is still a problem?  

    $ svn co http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/branches/1.4
